I haven’t been shopping much at Walgreens since the Balance Rewards program was put in place. It just gave me a headache to think about it. However,  this news is enough to make me reconsider.

Walgreens has updated their register systems to allow you to redeem your Balance Rewards points in $1 increments!  It used to be that you had to accumulate at least 5,000 points before you could redeem them. This new policy will allow you to lessen your out of pocket costs.

After your items are scanned and your coupons are discounted, the cashier’s screen will give options for redeeming your point balance such as redeem 1,000 points for $1, redeem 2,000 points for $2 and so on.

Note: these options only show up on the cashier’s screen, NOT the pin pad. Once the cashier selects the reward amount you’d like to use, you can proceed as normal by entering your zip code.

If this option isn’t available at your store, be patient. It may take some time for all store systems to be updated.
